R.I.P. Tonico

Yesterday there was no post as we had to attend a funeral for a friend - an old friend of my wife's family who, along with his own wife, took care of my father-in-law's house in his hometown during his absence. He was one of the last master craftsmen in this town, having earned his wage as a taylor with a personal school of disciples and students. As the priest told the attending persons of the importance and impact he had had on the village during his eighty years of life, I couldn't help but think of how times have changed and how we now live in an era where the old knowledge and care people used to give their professional activities is quickly eroding and dying , giving way to a faster, disposable way of living with no place for craftsmen and what they used to bring to everyday life...
