Taking a cue from my previous post, here are a few photos taken of original artwork by italian master illustrator Sergio Toppi, who had a whole exhibition for himself back in 2008 at Ângouleme. Gorgeous drawings!

More Hugo Pratt

Back in January 2008, we were lucky enough to visit the french city of Angoulême for its Annual Bande-Dessinée Festival. It was a once in a lifetime experience to witness a whole city transfigured by the imaginary of comics. There were some aspects of the overall event that I found less bright, particularly for a foreigner's first time, but I'd say that all in all it was quite positive and enlightening as an experience - it certainly made me understand the whole comics/bande-dessinée/manga world as an even more commercial enterprise than what I'd already suspected. On the other hand, there was the unique opportunity of seeing original artwork and pages at expos spreadout through town. I was particularly impressed with a couple of delightful pieces by the great late Hugo Pratt, which I now present here. Naturally the photos don't do it justice, but I think it's still worth sharing. TOYS V - Le Fauve

Got this one early this year at the Ângouleme Festival International de la Bande-Dessinée. The little kitty is called Le Fauve.
He's the Festival's mascot/trophy and was designed by the great french cartoonist Lewis Trondheim.
